Privacy Policy

Mood Movie Picker ("we", "our", "the extension") is a Chrome extension that recommends movies based on your mood. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Data We Collect

Account Data — If you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. We never see or store your plain-text password.

Mood Input — When you request a recommendation, the mood you select or type is sent to our server to generate results. We do not store your mood inputs after the request completes.

Usage Counts — We track how many picks you've used in the current billing period to enforce plan limits (3 for guests, 10 for free accounts, unlimited for Plus).

Subscription Data — If you subscribe to Plus, Stripe processes your payment. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID to manage your plan. We never see or store your card number.

Preferences — Your Love Language selection and saved films are stored locally in Chrome storage on your device.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

• Browsing history or activity outside the extension
• Location data
• Device identifiers or fingerprints
• Analytics or behavioral tracking data
• Your name, phone number, or physical address

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate the extension:

• Supabase — Authentication and database hosting. Your email and account data are stored here. Their privacy policy.
• Anthropic (Claude AI) — Generates movie recommendations from your mood input. Mood text is sent per-request and not stored by us. Their privacy policy.
• TMDB — Provides movie metadata (posters, ratings, genres, streaming availability). No personal data is sent to TMDB. Their privacy policy.
• Stripe — Processes Plus subscription payments. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe. Their privacy policy.
• Google — If you sign in with Google, authentication is handled through Google OAuth via Supabase. We receive only your email address.

4. Guest Users

If you use the extension without an account, your IP address is used temporarily (in server memory only) to enforce the 3-pick limit. It is not stored persistently or shared with anyone.

5. Chrome Extension Permissions

• storage — Save your authentication tokens, preferences, and saved films locally on your device.
• identity — Enable Google sign-in through Chrome's identity API.
• Host permissions — Connect to our backend API, Supabase, and TMDB for core functionality.

6. Data Retention

Account data is retained while your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is removed from our database. Local Chrome storage is cleared when you uninstall the extension.

7. Your Rights

You can:

• Delete your account by contacting us
• Use the extension as a guest without providing any personal data
• Clear local extension data through Chrome's extension settings

8. Children

Mood Movie Picker is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes.
